Question:
Hello Ballard Designs Style Gurus!
We purchased our first home and it is both very exciting and intimidating to decorate the entire house. I have started first with our downstairs formal living room/dinning room and family room/kitchen. These spaces are parallel to each other since we have an open, spacious floor plan with lots of light. Attached you’ll find pictures of both our formal and family rooms.
I’ve begun adding a few pieces here and there, but overall I am struggling with right accessories to complete the look. How can I turn them into something spectacular? I love Ballard products and I listed some products for both the rooms. I need the design teams expert advice please.
Thank you so much, we look forward to hearing from you.

Answer:
Dear Sailu,
You have such a beautiful home. We love the colors you’ve chosen and hope that our suggestions will at least give you some direction as far as finishing your rooms. Let’s start with the living room. We love your idea of the Red Patchwork Prints above your sofa. They will provide a focal point and add that “pop” of color. Next we chose the Turkestan Rug in Black to ground the room and unify your seating area. You will need a 5’ x 8’ rug at minimum, but you can go larger if you wish. Next on our list is the window treatments. Our thought is to keep it simple with our Bullion Fringe Panels in Sand Twill hung close to the ceiling on black decorative rods. Place one panel on either side of the front triple window and the dining room windows; for the side windows behind the sofa hang one panel on each window’s outer side. We love the idea of a Mahogany Dehavilland Console in the built in area of your dining room. And of course your idea of hanging the Mirrored Stars on the dining room wall is great!
Your family room is so bright and airy…we love how it looks. The Pembroke Indoor/Outdoor Rug would be a nice addition to this room. It would add some additional color and give the room a cozier feel. Not sure of the dimensions of the TV space, but we chose the Tuscan Media Console and Hutch in Antique Cherry to house your TV. We do have other media consoles online if the size does not work. Our choice for artwork above the fireplace is Symphony of Poppies Print by Liz Jardine. Under the windows by the back door we would like to see the Abbeville 5-Compartment Cabinet in black. Not only will it fill in the space, but it will provide you with additional storage. The windows are challenging as there are so many of them. We would like to see each group treated as one window by placing a roman shade made in our Tuscan Vine Fabric. You can also order Throw Pillows for your sectional in the Tuscan Vine Pattern (FP560) to coordinate and help tie everything together.
We know that we gave you a lot to think about, and completing a house can be a monumental task. But if you have some sort of a vision and plan, it is easier to accomplish the goal. Please e-mail us your thoughts on our suggestions – we love hearing from our customers! And of course don’t forget to send pictures of your finished home. We would love to post them on Style Studio.
Sincerely,
The Style Studio Team

you home IS lovely, with great bones and functional pieces…it will look STUNNING once Ballard’s suggestions are in place. I LOVE the paint color and wonder if Ballard can provide me with the name of the color and mfr. also, that turkestan rug is terrific in BOTH colors. once i get some photos together, i would love to have Ballard advise me with some tweaking ideas. i already have a room, predominantly decorated with Ballard pieces and it is one of my favorite places in my home. sincerely, anne g.
