2010 Southern Living Idea House
Senoia, Georgia is a small, historic town about an hour south of Atlanta. It is the site of this year’s Southern Living Idea House. If you have a chance to visit this incredible home, we would encourage you to make a day of it. The Idea House is situated within walking distance of the quaint downtown district of Senoia.
To our delight, the Southern Living Idea House was a breath of fresh air on a hot Georgia Sunday afternoon. The townhouse is impressive with its brick façade and gated side yard reminiscent of an era gone by.
Opening the front door, one has the sense that the house, although four stories high, is intimate and charming. The attention to architectural detail is evident throughout the house. The tall ceilings, extensive moldings and the imaginative use of built-ins were carefully thought out and never overdone.
Of course, we were somewhat impressed with the fact that Ballard Designs furnishings, fabrics and accessories were used throughout the house. We loved seeing how our furniture and accessories worked so well, creating a calm and peaceful environment. We were amazed at the comfortable feel of each room. The color palette was sophisticated and serene with the exception of the children’s rooms which were filled with bright and whimsical themes, a delight for any child. This idea house invites you in, beckons you to put your feet up and just relax – a fresh approach to a “design house”.
We think the magic of the design lies in the fact that the furnishings, accessories nor the lighting never competed visually. It was an amazing balance of style, color and design. So, if you are looking for something to do on a lazy Georgia afternoon, we highly recommend the Southern Living Idea House Tour. Maybe you’re not in the market for a townhome, but you will walk away with many inventive ideas for your own home, which makes the trip to Senoia well worth it.
