Part of the fun and tradition of decorating the tree is getting out all of the ornaments collected through the years and reminiscing about past holidays. Our favorite ornaments are the ones that are most heartfelt, usually because they’re handmade and have special meaning. Now is the perfect time to make new memories to hang on the tree this year. We asked professional stylist and blogger Ginny Branch to craft a few ultra-simple and super affordable homemade ornaments for us. Give them as gifts and keep some for yourself. You can easily find all of the items needed to make these ornaments at your local crafts store.
Filled Glass Ornaments
Fill clear glass ornament balls with an assortment of natural objects, such as dried flowers, butcher’s twine, shredded paper or feathers.
Safety tip: If you’re doing this craft with children, wrap a small strip of masking tape around the top of the ornament and fold down inside to cover sharp edges.
Personalized Chalkboard Ornaments
Paint unfinished wood ornaments with chalkboard paint and write family members’ names or a festive message on them using chalk.
Cut-Out Stars
Trace the shape of a star using a cookie cutter on sheets of bark and cut out with scissors. Make a single ornament or string several together with twine to create a beautiful and natural garland. You can find the sheets of bark at your local craft store.
