Dear How to Decorate,
Hello and please help! We are building our home and I am so excited! My dilemma(s) are trying to place our burgundy-ish leather couch (4×8), love seat (4×5) and oversized chair (4×3) in the family room.
We were considering putting the TV in the corner between the fireplace and porch wall. Chair in corner on other side of the fireplace. Love seat on same wall. Couch across from fireplace. But my husband wanted the chair to be in view of TV…
And then there are the paint colors. Do I need to keep the whole first floor the same wall color since its all open? Floors will be dark brown polished concrete, kitchen cabinets a shade of white. I was leaning toward a pale yellow/tan color? I wanted warm and welcoming. Thank you for any and all advice!
Appreciative in Alabama,
Whitney R.

Dear Whitney,
Thank you for your dilemma. Try placing the television against the porch wall as opposed to the corner. Then the chair should fit in the outer corner of the room and in view of the TV. The sofa and loveseat should work well in your placement.
As far as paint colors — make sure if you use yellow, you can use a pale, buttery yellow (like Benjamin Moore Lighthouse 2018-70) or, if you are looking for tan, again keep it light and airy (like Benjamin Moore Rich Cream 2153-60).
As far as painting the entire downstairs the same color — there are no rules. Painting all of the open area the same color would make the space appear larger. Just make sure that if you decide to do different colors, make sure there are “cut-off” points that you can use to change colors.
We do hope that this information helps you with your decorating.
Happy Decorating!
