Choosing Fabric For Some New Furniture

Typesetter Plaque

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

My walls are yellow. I have two window treatments that I want to keep (see pictures below). My sofa is a cream duck fabric. My rug is seagrass. The coffee table is creme. My breakfast table is round and black.

I want to add an armed chair to the den (fabric?) and I want to add the Coventry bench sectional -20×36 – to the kitchen. I have purchased the Haviland and Callisto stripe grey throw pillows.

I was thinking of adding charcoal velvet in some way and I thought about the Laguna khaki for the breakfast bench.

Any ideas are welcome!

Signed,
Kara

Kara,

The rich yellow color of your walls works nicely with the soft neutrals you are trying to infuse into your space.

We think Laguna Khaki would be a good solution for the Coventry Group. We recommend ordering a fabric sample to verify the color in your lighting.

Charcoal Velvet appears to be too cool in color for your room but consider Harlow Quilted Taupe instead. Add a couple of pillows in Marcella Cilantro Sunbrella to repeat the green in your window treatments.

For a side chair, we suggest Susan Kasler Flax Linen for subtle texture and then accessorize it with a pillow in Queens Velvet Yellow as a pop of color.

Happy Decorating!
