Living Room Decorating Ideas

Dear Style Studio team,

We have a beautiful home with an open floor plan. Our living room is 24 x 16 and we found it to be somewhat difficult to decorate because of the sheer length of it. We have a beautiful couch and we have a blue color theme going on as you can see in the pictures in both the living room and the kitchen.

We need help with decorating ideas for the walls as well as accessories to make this awesome place feel more like a home. We would like to bring in a mixture of decor items and lighting (lamps) to bring this room together.

I guess our primary color is blue since most of our items (rug, chairs, pillows, etc.) have blue in them. With that said, we need to figure out what the second color needs to be … maybe red?

Thanks,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

You have a great start on your room. Looks like you just need some key furniture pieces and a few accessories to complete your space. We like your idea of adding a pop of red to your living area!

Our first recommendation is to add two of our Bourdonnais Shelves, in Mahogany, flanking the fireplace. The fireplace is your focal wall in the room and it needs some additional strength to pull off such an important task. These shelves also provide a great area to add colorful books and beautiful accessories to compliment the room. Consider adding our Ilex branches to narrow vases and then place them at each end of the mantle for additional pop of color.

Turning to your long wall, we recommend adding our Field of Poppies Giclee Print above your sectional and then flank it with four of our Antique Mirror Sconces.

Now you’re ready to add pillows in Crimson Twill, French Ticking and Desert Chenielle on the sectional. On one end of the sectional, place the Piemonte Side Table in distressed white and at the other try a Bornova table in brown.

Don’t forget table lamps, like our Malia Seeded Glass lamp, to light your area. Also, we suggest adding a floor lamp nestled behind your side chair for additional lighting.

The Carrington coffee table in Rustic Pine is a great size and unexpected finish in front of the sectional. Consider crowning the table with a small red tray filled with our Flameless Candles for cozy evenings.

We like your choice of table behind the sectional. You should consider placing one larger or two smaller lamps on this piece of furniture for lighting. To fill in the area around the table, place a Metallic Garden Seat topped with a blooming plant and then between the table and garden seat, nestle various sized floor baskets. We like our Newport Braided Basket. The baskets provide excellent spots for stray blankets or extra pillows.

As you accessorize a space, don’t be afraid to layer different textures and finishes to really spice things up.

Happy Decorating!
