Decorating A Long, Narrow Family Room

Dear Style Studio,

The farmhouse we recently rented has a long, narrow front room that we’d like to use as a family room. We don’t know where to begin as a focal point, but would like it to be the television.

How can we make best use of the space so that there will be plenty of seating for our very large family and the television is able to be seen from all places?

The pictures I’ve sent are: front of the house, right side of room before current owners redecorated, right side of room after current owners redecorated, and left side of room after current owners redecorated (which opens up into another room we hope to use as a sitting room/den so if possible we’d like to keep the television away from this opening)

Thank you.

Best,

Mary

Baldwin Wedge Sectional slip covered in Celery Twill

Dear Mary,

From the layout of the room, we recommend utilizing the area to the left side of the front door.

A good place to start is with our Baldwin Wedge Sectional slip covered in Celery Twill. This sectional will maximize your seating and the slip cover is washable … important with children! Add to your sectional throw pillows in Burlap, Sage Check and Augustine Amber.

Now place a side table at each end of the sectional as a landing spot for lamps or drinks. Near the front door, consider tucking our Courtland Club chair wrapped in Sage Check.

Tuscan Media Console in brown

For your media storage, the Tuscan Media ConsoleĀ in brown will be a perfect fit. Mounting your flat screen on the wall above will provide additional storage space.

To one side of the Tuscan piece we think adding a couple of our Leather Poufs in Moss will give you additional pull-up seating.

A room is not complete without accessories so we recommend our Pinecone and Conifer Art for the walls and Button Leaf Topiaries to bring nature inside.

As a final touch, repeat the burlap fabric on the windows with our Fringed Burlap Panels.

Thoughtfully combining a few key pieces into a space will provide all the seating you need … Happy Decorating!
