Getting Away From A Brown Living Room

Dear Style Studio Team,

My living room has tan/brown walls (can’t change wall color), wood floors, brown couch, orange/brown drapes. Too much brown and blah!

I’d like to lighten it up, add a rug, get rid of the kid furniture and make it a light, comfortable space.

I’d like gray couches and yellow or blue accent chairs but I’m just not sure how to pull it all together. I LOVE the Firenze embroidered 108-inch panels, I’d love to base the room on those.

There are four entry access points to the open floor plan, making furniture arrangement a struggle. I also need help with wall décor that fits the space, right now it’s hodge podge and so small.

Thanks!

Alexa

Alexa,

There comes a time when every room needs to be freshened up! We created a plan that will accomplish just that for your space.

Of course the first thing that we suggest is the Firenza Embroidered Panels in gray for all your windows! With that as our inspiration, we think our Baldwin Sectional slipcovered in Sunbrella Taupe would be the perfect sofa solution for your home because the slipcover is removable for easy cleaning. Keeping the sectional in the sameplace seems to work.  Next pile on some fabulous pillows for color and pattern. We suggest using Cheetah Gray, Charcoal Velvet, Asha Pewter and Yellow Velvet. For in front of your sectional, the finish on our Durham Cocktail Table is spot-on in the color mix for your space … gray and brown.

The Larkin Side Chair is a fabulous frame that will pop with color when you cover it in Danish Honey. We recommend using two of the chairs and face them towards the windows. Now nestle an Ethan Tray Table, in black, between the chairs as a spot for your drinking glass.

You certainly don’t want this furniture to just float in the middle of the room so consider adding a rug to ground the entire conversation group. Try our Raleigh Natural Fiber Rug to capture the job!

>We like how you have tucked small ottomans by the fireplace. We love the idea but try new ottomans with pattern and color. Consider our Jasmine Storage Ottoman upholstered in Zebra Natural Woven. The profile of this gem is unique and very much an eye catcher.

Our idea for your niche’ to the left of the fireplace is to tuck a bookcase in this space for much needed storage. You can load it up with books and with baskets to hold all the runaway toys after each play time. Top the bookcase with our Sacha Mirror to reflect a little twinkle into the shadowed space.

The accent wall painted a darker color could use a jolt of attitude! Consider adding an Ananda Serving table in whitewashed elm and then top it with our Peacock Tree Giclee to repeat your color plan. Flank the art with our Chateau Candle Lanterns or pretty candle sconces on the wall. The table is another ideal spot to stow the Jasmine Ottoman when it is not in use.

If you follow this plan, your updated space will be so fresh that your old look will be gone from your memory forever! We are excited …
