Dear Style Studio,
I’m having a hard time finding the right pieces to go in my living room. I have an open concept, kitchen, eating living room, etc.
I do have a one-year-old so right now we have her items in the room that we will eventually move. I have a gray sofa and cream oversized chair. We are keeping these. We have a leather ottoman that for right now we are keeping but I have thought a round one might be good.
For the open space by the stairs and fireplace, I thought a chair would go nice but I’m wondering if I need one or two, and what type? Too much furniture? How about a bench? Chair in front of fireplace? I don’t like the media cabinet either so I need to find something that would go with the other pieces.
We are going to re-paint a light green, pale green color on the walls. Probably have to keep the rug.
Also, I’m not sure about the foyer table. Should I replace it with a longer one and what color? Or keep it? Or re-paint it? Also side tables?
I don’t want a lot of wood furniture … too much I think?
Thanks!
Kim
Dear Kim,
Just a couple of ideas we think will help your space to feel refined …
First, move your existing club chair to the left of the fireplace along with adding our Durham Nesting Tables for your favorite book and drink. Consider adding a table lamp to this area because we want you to move the floor lamp to the right side of the fireplace.
Next, tuck a new media cabinet under the window to the right of the window along with the transplanted floor lamp. Our Wesley Media Cabinet is the ideal scale for this space.
Since you now have an empty spot in front of the triple windows, we think adding two smaller scale chairs to this space would fill it out perfectly. Our Graham chairs upholstered in Zebra Natural is just enough pattern to add the perfect amount of needed texture to the conversation group.
Add pillows on the sofa, in fabrics like Danish Honey, to help tie your existing rug into the plan.
Replacing your existing rectangle ottoman with one big round ottoman might prove to be a little overpowering. Instead, why not consider three of our Graphite Leather Pouf ottomans in a row … creating the strength of one piece but giving you the flexibility of movement.
Your entry area feels big but you don’t want to fill it up with an over-sized piece. We suggest adding a cabinet that is smaller in scale but still appears mighty because it is an enclosed piece. Our pick – The Louis Metal Demilune. The bonus of this piece is extra storage! We are all in need of that, right?
Have fun with your edits as you grow and refine your space. We are always anxious to see the result so send pictures.
Happy Decorating!
