Choosing Living Room Carpet and Chair Fabric

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear Style Studio Team,

I purchased the following items from Ballard Designs for my living room (in the following colors):

1. loveseat – Lorenzo Putty
2. upholstered bench – Palomar Sand
3. arm chairs (x2) – McKenzie Strip Natural

I have another high back chair that is 34″ wide by 110″ high, and I want to buy a fabric that will go with the other items in the room.

I’m not sure if maybe I do the Palomar Sand fabric since that is only on one bench on the opposite side of the room from where the high back chair will be? Or, should I do it in the Lorenzo putty?

Also, I want to figure out what kind of carpet I should get from you? I am leaning towards a solid color (since there is a brick fireplace in the room as well) and I want it to be a bit more of a conservative room. Maybe the Braided Jute Rug in the bleached or a sisal rug?

Please advise!

Maria

Hello Maria,

Great color palette … it is very serene!

Since your chair is unusually tall, we think the large pattered Palomar Sand would be a great fabric for the chair. You might also consider Laguna Khaki and Tamerlane Taupe to work into your room.

The Herringbone Jute Natural Fiber Rug is a fabulous rug selection. For another phenomenal rug option, we recommend our Highclere Rug!

Happy Decorating!
