Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.
Dear Style Studio Team,
I am having a difficult time setting up my home office. I honestly don’t know where to start.
Some pieces of furniture that I like are: the Original Home Office Corner Desk Group (Item No. #MO266 in the catalog from August 2013). I also love the Whitley Desk (Item Number #MO312) both in the white finish adding soft blue rug.
I am going for a clean, modern style; nothing too traditional or bulky.
Where should I place a desk in a room of this size with the window being so small?
I need a desk to support a computer, printer, scanner and more.

Dear Katherine,
Even though your space is small, there are many options for creating the perfect work space for your home office.
The beautiful Whitley Desk is a sophisticated choice and can be flanked by necessary pieces from our Tuscan Collection for storage and office equipment.
Placing it against the large wall, where your current work surface is located, seems to be the ideal plan.
Having an expanse of wall space above your desks allows for adding a Message Board to capture all that inspires you.
We also suggest adding happy artwork to make for a inspired office.
All of these new pieces will shine brightly when resting on our Avlon Dhurrie Flatweave Rug. The fresh graphic style of this rug brings your home office the clean and modern style you desire.
It appears that you could fit in an armless chair for an occasional change of pace.
We recommend placing our Leyland Chair against the wall that faces the window.
Bring in a small side table and floor lamp for a cozy little retreat.
For your mentioned office alternative, the Original Home Office would give you the ultimate flexibility in creating a work environment to specifically meet your needs.
We suggest placing your main work surface on the long wall where your current desk is placed and then wrap needed storage pieces around the left corner to the wall under the window … ultimately benefiting from the natural light.
There still seems to be enough space to bring in a side chair for cozy reading!
Either direction you take, your office will be humming with fun and productivity because it’s always more fun to work in an a beautiful environment!
Happy Decorating!
