Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.
Dear How to Decorate,
Please help! I am stuck in a sea of brown! We are currently renting and not allowed to re-paint the brown wall which unfortunately almost matches our couch and matching overstuffed chair identically. I usually love a neutral, monochromatic look, but this is overkill. I need something to help break up the monotony of all of this brown. Recommendations for a way to “pop” neutral, yet exciting accents, rug, additional lighting are appreciated!
Thanks,
Kathryn
Dear Kathryn,
Thank you for your Decorating Dilemma. We love the neutral tones in your living room, but we do know that we can help you pull everything together with a few additions!
Let’s start with the mantel over the fireplace. Adding the Peacock Tree Giclee to your existing pictures will help add a little bit of color and create a color palette for the room.
Adding the Tabitha rug under your sofa and cocktail ottoman will add a soft color to break up all the brown, especially with the help of a few throw pillows. Adding 1 or 2 Butter color pillows from our Essential Pillows Collection will help accentuate the yellows from the giclée into the room.
Bring drama into the space by adding the Brooklyn floor lamp into the corner where the windows and chair meet. Hang 3 small Bellesol Mirrors in a vertical formation to create interest and drama on the other side of the windows, next to your black and white photos.
Please let us know what you think, and don’t forget to send some pictures when you complete your look!
