Because we shoot in real homes, we are not always at liberty to paint the walls. In those cases, we have chosen paint colors that best match the wall color in the photo. Please be aware that color may vary due to various light conditions, finish and other factors. Therefore, it’s always a great idea to test a paint sample on your wall first. We use Benjamin Moore paint, but most paint stores can match any color.
We’re on the heels of Spring, and this year, we were inspired by open and airy neutrals, accented by pops of color. Grays and creams were our palette du jour, but we couldn’t help sneaking a few brighter hues in our accessories.
Browse paint colors from past catalogs, or find more decorating inspiration by visiting our Pinterest boards.

I absolutely love the last photo of the living room. What are the names of the colors used and is the furniture and decorations still for sale on the website?
Caroline @ How to Decorate
Lauren,
Most of these furniture pieces are still for sale — like our Olivia 30″ Mirrored Table, Eton Sofa, Hayes Ottoman, and Suzanne Kasler’s Sisal Rug. The art pieces over the sofa have been discontinued, but we do have some that are VERY similar.
Glad you like this space. Happy Decorating!
Carol
Love the mirrors above the dining room windows, beautiful! Where can I purchase them? Thanks!
Lydia Merz
Carol,
We don’t sell those anymore, but we have similar ones on our website.
Val
Hi, love the dining room with the circle light fixture! Any idea where I can find a similar one? Thanks!

Delia,
Those are the Firenze Curtain Panel in Gray from Ballard Designs.

I live in Australia where Benjamin Moore colours aren’t available…how can I match them? I desperately want Chelsea Grey and Galveston Grey
Caroline @ How to Decorate
Hi Sarah,
Not sure but you could see if your local paint store can color match to Benjamin Moore colors. Here in the states, most every paint store has these colors on file. If you aren’t able to do that, I’d suggest ordering a Benjamin Moore color deck and taking that to your paint store for them to match.
Best of luck!
Sabrina
The elegant family/living room at end of post is gorgeous. Love the colors of the furniture. What is the peachy fabric print called on the accent chair?
Caroline @ How to Decorate
Sabrina,
Thanks for your comment. We’re so happy to hear you like this fabric! Unfortunately, we no longer carry this print, but our Belize Apricot Fabric is the same color in a different pattern.
Hope that helps!

Hi! I am a very happy owner of the Ballard Designs Original Home Office credenza in Dark Grey. I’d like to paint some existing shelves to match the color of the credenza. Any ideas for what color might be a close to perfect match?
Thank you!
Caroline @ How to Decorate
Hi Sarah,
Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact paint match for our Original Home Office Collection, but we would suggest you take a drawer out of your credenza and have the paint store match the color for you!
Best of Luck,

I was wondering what color white you prefer for moldings and doors. What did you use in the dining room photo above? We are having a difficult time finding the right white. Thanks!
Caroline McDonald
Kyle,
The white we use most often in our catalog is White Dove. It’s also a favorite among designers so we highly recommend it!

Is the desk and bookcase from the Durham line? Thanks in advance!!

Thank you!!

Malea
Hello Team!
I would like to have my oak floors redone in my house and I am wondering what stain color your would choose if you had all golden oak furniture?
Thanks!
Caroline @ How to Decorate
Hi Malea,
Thank you so much for your comment. Unfortunately we can’t give you an exact stain color, because it would depend on the type of wood you’re staining and also the amount of coats you’re using. We would suggest though that you test a few colors on some spare pieces of wood and compare that to the furniture pieces you’re hoping to match!
Best of Luck,

Beautiful rooms! Any idea where I can buy the light fixture in the dining room featuring the Galveston Grey paint? Also, I love the grey, but is it too dark for a basement?
Caroline @ How to Decorate
Hi Angie,
Thanks for your comment! The light fixture in the dining room you’re asking about is the Ballard Designs Orb Chandelier. Also, we don’t think Galveston Gray would be too dark for a basement depending on what look you’re going for. It could definitely create a moody, cozy space! We suggest painting a large swatch on your wall before making your final decision!
Happy Decorating,

Can you tell me who makes the dining room curtains?

hello. could you please tell me the paint color to the dinning area on page 51 of the April 2014 issue.
Caroline @ How to Decorate
Hi Amy,
We recommend trying Benjamin Moore’s Jute (#AF-80). As always we suggest painting a few swatches on your wall before making your final decision. Depending on the lighting in your room and the furnishings, paint colors can read very differently from space to space.
Happy Decorating,

Can you tell me the paint color in the Elton Living Room (on the website)? Thank you!
How to Decorate Team
Hi Anne,
That’s a gorgeous room, great choice! Try Benjamin Moore’s Moonshine (#2140-60). As always we suggest painting a few swatches on your wall before making your final decision. Depending on the lighting in your room and the furnishings, paint colors can read very differently from space to space.
Best of luck!

I am not sure which catalog this was in – but I was wondering if you have a match for the walls of the Leyland Living Room (from the website?) This is the exact color I am looking for! Thank you!
How to Decorate Team
Hi Tamara,
Unfortunately we do not have an exact paint color for that living room. We suggest you take your catalog tear to your local paint store and have them match it!

I’m looking for the perfect gray for the exterior of my house. I love the Galveston Gray photo. Do you think that gray is intense enough for outside, too?
How to Decorate Team
Hi Lisa,
It’s difficult to say without seeing your home, but we see no reason why Galveston Gray, which really is lovely, couldn’t be used outside. Depending on the look you’re aiming for, it most likely won’t look too intense. As always with paint color choices though, we suggest you try a few shades of gray on the exterior of your home to figure out just the right option!
Best of luck, and happy decorating!

The cover on your March 2014 catalog is the most beautiful shade of seafoam green. There is a small picture of a dining room on it painted the same color. Any idea what color it might be?
How to Decorate Team
Hi Shannon,
Unfortunately, we don’t have the name of this paint color, as it was already painted before we photographed this space. I’d suggest just taking your catalog to the paint store to have it color matched!
Best of Luck,
The How to Decorate Team!

How about some colors for those of us who don’t like gray?
How to Decorate Team
Hi D,
You’re right this season had a lot of gray and cream wall colors. We really love the way they support colorful fabrics and a mix of finishes. You’ll find a little bit more color in the Summer catalog!
Thanks for your comment,

Great colors and very inspiring rooms. I just used the Valley Forge Tan (aka Plymouth Rock) in our guest bath remodel recently. And I love the coral and soft blue grays in that last photo. Thanks for the inspiration!
