If you’ve flipped through the pages of our summer catalog, you’ve probably noticed that we’ve loved infusing all of our pages with a coastal vibe. Whether it’s strong navy-and-white color palette, soft sandy neutrals with hints of the sea, or a light watery aqua from top to bottom, ‘coastal’ always feel fresh and relaxing, a Ballard Designs favorite! Inspired by the spaces in our Summer 2014 catalog, we’ve broken down exactly how to get that coastal look straight from our pages to the web!
We couldn’t help but be drawn to the living room above — our classic spa color palette, relaxed with light grays and tans. It’s a combination that will never go out of style, but what makes it feel fresh is the touches of marine life throughout. We love the White Heron Giclée Print paired with sky blues and grays. Top it all off with a mercury glass table lamp, woven wicker baskets, and a collection of coral and sea shells on the coffee table, and your living room gets a total summer makeover!

Hi! What is the best rug to go with The Larkin chair in Spa Herringbone? I’m thinking about the Simrall rug. My Sofa is a warm neutral linen and bronze accents. Does the Felicity Spa fabric coordinate with the Spa Herringbone?
Thanks!
Ann-Marie Nelson
Caroline @ How to Decorate
Ann-Marie,
The Simrall would be a beautiful choice to go with our Spa Herringbone and Felicity Spa fabrics. All of them will coordinate nicely!

We live on the NC coast and this is so the look I want for my great room and the colors I’m working towards. We have a combination great room/kitchen/dining area. But my kitchen cabinets are in a golden oak & the windows all have dark wood Levelor blinds (to block so much summer sun). I love the jute paint color but am wondering how much more I’d have to change. Is it a more gray or tan?
Also, I am trying to determine if I want to paint both walls & trim the same color or in contrast. I love the contrast but wonder if that would leave my room too chopped up looking.
