Dear How to Decorate,
I love browsing through the decorating dilemmas, and now I have one of my own! We have a large living room (approximately 14′ x 17′), and I was going to decorate it myself but I’m stuck.
We purchased a light blue sofa, which is under a set of bay windows. We also have two navy chairs from Ballard as you can see. I am obsessed with trying to find throw pillows, but there are just so many options! I’d like to incorporate some life into the room, colors that coordinate with navy and light blue. I was thinking coral or greens?
I also need help finishing the decorating. Would you add a chandelier? I also think we need a love seat or a couple of more chairs, some more side tables, and lamps. I think we’re set on art as you can see from the gallery wall I created. I would also love any ideas you have.
The room is directly off of the entry and there is a corner fireplace, which I tried to disguise by painting it the same color as the walls.
Thank you for your help!
Sally
Dear Sally,
No need to feel stuck—let’s bring in some life!
Let’s look at pillows first to inspire the rest of the room. We love the the Grayson Ditsy in navy for your space, right on the sofa, maybe with another pillow in Suzanne Kasler’s Flax & Blanc Stripe. We think some fun aquas and green-blues will bring that life you’re looking for, which is why we chose our Balboa Ikat for a pair of pillows on your navy chairs. Now, having this new color to play with, anchor it with a rug. The Devlin Tufted rug will tie in all the colors while adding a luxurious layer to your beautiful wood floors.
We think you need one more comfy chair to make this space really inviting. We suggest our Larkin Swivel Glider in Suzanne Kasler’s 13oz Signature Linen in Mineral. The Benedetta Round Side table will softly mimic the legs on your console and coffee table and give you the spot for a Suzanne Kasler Gourd Lamp in Cream. As an extra table-top-space, place Durham Nesting Tables on the opposite end of the sofa.
As a finishing touch, adorn the center of the room with a bronze Talia 6-arm chandelier topped with Mica Chandelier Shades.
Happy Decorating!
