Dear How to Decorate,
We have purchased furniture but are unsure how to paint the room and accessorize with drapes and a rug!
There are couple of pieces of art that we got as a gift and would like to use in some form or other if possible.
We have the same issue with all the rooms but want to start with the dining room
Thanks for your help,
Vaishali
Dear Vaishali,
How wonderful to have such a lovely dining room! We suggest really making it fresh by adding a coat or two of Benjamin Moore Clay Beige #OC-11 as a warm neutral wall color. Our 9-arm Grande Claire chandelier would add an elegance to your room and set the tone for a sophisticated room.
The reflective quality of our Chinoiserie-style Tiana mirror in antique brass above your console will brighten your space. Adding a pair of Maria buffet lamps on the buffet in antique brass with cream linen shades, along with our Blue and White Porcelain Vases, will add visual interest and coordinate with your existing art. Since your artwork is smaller in scale, we suggest hanging it on the wall to the left of your sideboard … leading into your living room.
Arrange our Blue Vase Art in vertical pairs on the side walls facing your French doors. They would be lovely accents and will pull in the colors and theme of the vases on your buffet. Replace your existing rug with the Keen Hand-Tufted rug under your dining table to provide a lovely pop of pattern paired with a neutral, watery blue and gray palette. This color story will be a complement to the art work and accessories within the room.
Increase the visual impact of your window in the room by hanging Suzanne Kasler Linen Drapery Panels in parchment, approximately 4” – 6” above your window. If you make sure they don’t cover any of the glass, your window will appear twice as big.
To lend vertical interest to the dining room, we suggest moving your tall lantern from the sideboard to your plant stand.
Finally, adding Bunny Williams’ Gilded Sculptural Bowl on the dining table will complement the mirror, the buffet lamps and your artwork.
Happy Decorating!
