Dear How to Decorate,
We are buying a new house and will be buying new furniture for the living room. I plan to redo the fireplace, take out the marble, and mount the TV above it.
There are 4 windows and one slider door, so I can’t have the sofa against any of the walls. I was thinking about getting a sectional.
Please help us!

Dear Sima,
Congratulations on your new home! Let’s cozy this large room up with some color, texture and art.
Every good room starts with a beautiful rug so our 9’x12’ Devlin Tufted Rug in a rich palette of soft blue, dusty coral, sage, ochre and mineral is how this rooms starts. Our fabulous Baldwin 4-Piece Sectional wrapped in a Trilby Basketweave Natural Slipcover is the answer for comfortable seating.
A brown Bornova Coffee Table adds texture and contrast. Behind the sofa, we suggest an Ananda Serving Table in Rustic Black because of its fabulous profile and ideal size for lamps. Two Aubry Table Lamps on either end will create a beautiful entrance into the room and serve for lighting on the sofa. Below the Ananda, slip in a Carlton Bench upholstered in Sunbrella Capri Butter along with a smaller Diamond Sisal Rug in Gray.
Our Morgan Double Wide Low Shelf on either side of the fireplace will bring balance and give a stage on which to display your treasures without blocking your heating vents. You can layer in some greenery, books and baskets for a refined look.
For another layer of texture, Suzanne Kasler Signature Linen Panels in Camel hung at the same height, on all windows, with add softness and light control to the room. The Shutter TV Wall Cabinet, hung directly above the fireplace, will hide up to a 55” television at the perfect viewing level. Top off the Shutter Cabinet with our Grand Palais Round Mirror take the eye up and showcasing your lovely high ceiling. Also in this seating group, we suggest a Peterson Leather Chair in Taupe paired with a Jeffery Floor Lamp in Antique Brass. Pull up a Cannes Striped Garden Seat in Blue for a pop of color. Infuse more color and great energy into this area by adding a Season’s Art piece and the Mineral Sea Art (36”x 54”) on the opposite wall. If you ground the Mineral Sea Art with two Leather Cube Ottomans, not only will the space look finished but you will also have additional seating when needed.
Lastly, in the back corner, add a Louis XVI 44” Sideboard in Dark Mahogany to provide some great storage. Our Large Bellesol Mirror and a Suzanne Kasler Large Gourd Lamp in Gray Green will create a stunning look.
A well defined conversation space balancing with beautiful accent furniture and accessories always leads to a room that will amaze.
Happy Decorating!
