Pool party season may soon come to a close, but it doesn’t mean you have to go indoors. In fact, we’re looking forward to cooler days and nights. And those cooler temps of fall make it an ideal time to be outside and enjoy your patio a little longer. Which is why we’re thinking of ways to bring fall to our porch and patio. Take a peek at some of our best ideas:
Set the tone for fall with a fun, festive entrance. Add a wreath or get creative with our Birch Twig Letters. We spelled out “BOO” for a bit of whimsy (an idea we got from a customer!). Our spirited Stone Wellies give guests a place to set their soggy umbrellas before coming in, and our Outdoor Stone Pumpkins bring a harvest-inspired touch you can enjoy year after year. And if you’ve got a summer-themed doormat, switch it out for something more neutral that can take you through spring.
The easiest way to warm up an outdoor space is through color. This summer, we were gaga over turquoise and indigo, but for fall we’re warming up with coral — and lots of it. We traded out our splashy blue seat cushions for Canvas Rust Sunbrella® and coordinated the look with our Seneca Stripe Indoor/Outdoor Drapery Panels. And when you’re dining alfresco by the fire, cut branches from the yard make an effortless and casual centerpiece.
Bring the natural beauty of autumn’s harvest to your porch. Create a cornucopia of squash and pumpkins in different colors and sizes for an outdoor table. Add dried leaves, berry sprigs, pinecones or whatever you can find for even more festivity. We used our Fossilized Magnolia Bowl, but you could use any sturdy basket or even a planter.
Fall is about feeling cozy and finding comfort in the things that bring you warmth, like your favorite cashmere sweater or a lovingly worn out pair of fleece slippers. You can create that same invitingly, snuggle-worthy vibe on your porch. Pile on the pillows in vibrant colors (we love the warmth of our Tuscan Paisley and Rust Canvas combination) and toss on a colorful throw, like our Autumn Plaid Blanket.

After going through a long and painful process of finding a sunbrella pattern, etc. to recover cushions for porch furniture I did give up on the idea of duplicating the beautiful floral patterns I had used for the last 10 years and went with neutral solid colors. With the exception of one set of cushions with a pattern.. I’m now able to choose accessories – pillows, etc. to change out when the season changes. Finally! Now I can hardly wait for new cushions to arrive. Will have my flowers, butterflies, pumpkins, etc. on pillows that can be put away until season calls for them and change the look on my neutral cushions. Finally!
