Decorating Dilemma: Audrey’s Dining Room

Decorating a dining room

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

I need help finishing my dining room! It’s the first room you see as you walk in, as I have a short hallway with no room for furniture. Across from dining room are French doors leading to home office.

I want the feeling of the dining room to be comfortable, sophisticated but not formal. I have your Allegro rug in family room. I like the idea of using Sunbrella Capri Butter fabric an upholstered chair, but not sure what would go with my existing chairs.

I would like to replace the black sofa table. The mirror will not stay. I have four black, gold, white plates that I would like to hang. I also need window treatments, a rug, and maybe buffet lamps?

I like to many ideas to make a decision!

Help,
Audrey

Audrey,

You have a great starting point to achieve the sophisticated — but not stuffy — dining room you desire. We have begun by creating a solid foundation with our Suzanne Kasler Sisal Rug with a Mineral border. The addition of two Marion Dining chairs upholstered in the Capri Butter will add a subtle punch of color. We replaced your current sofa table with the Ananda Serving Table in Rustic Black, which gives you ample space for two Maria Buffett lamps. We love mixing metals and it will pay tribute your existing nickel finish chandelier, but without matching.

We suggest adding 4 of the Heines Botanical Prints above the serving table and then hanging Courtney Drapery Panels on your two windows will be a great balance to these prints.

On either side of your china hutch we have selected the two Cote De La Mar Prints; these abstract prints are a fabulous compliment to the botanical print on the drapes and the art in the room. The space in between the windows is a perfect spot to hang your plates.

Remember to send pictures … we love to seeing finished spaces.

Happy Decorating!

I love how clean and neutral that rug is! What a great foundation to use for decorating a room!
