Decorating Dilemmas: Liz’s Living Room

Decorating Liz's living room with a sectional, art, and curtains

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

We have lots of windows, a fireplace and a half wall to work around. I would like to create a relaxing and intimate gathering area that maximizes seating and add a TV that can be viewed by any guests hanging out in the kitchen area.

Please help. We have lived here 7 years, and I would love to transform this room into something we can finally use.

Thanks
Liz

Dear Elizabeth,

Spaces that have plenty of activity with a family needs to be inviting and comfortable. We enjoy creating those type spaces and with our products, the spaces can be gorgeous, too.

Having a great rug is the perfect place to start because it creates focus in the room and gives the opportunity to add interest and visual text below all the major furniture pieces. We suggest our Monroe Hem Rug. Top that with our Baldwin 4-piece sectional. A sectional is the ideal seating solution for a busy area. It is extremely comfortable, and it’s easy to care for since it is slipcovered. We suggest a slipcover in Quilted Off-White. Add throw pillows for color. The art we collected for your space is Golden Pear Art, two Bellesol Mirrors, and our Natalia Iron Plaque. Front the sectional with a Carrington Coffee Table in rustic pine and then a Durham Square End Table will give the right amount of places for drinks, books and remotes.

Our Courtney Spa panels will soften the hard corners on your windows and give a fabulous display of pattern and color. Repeat this pattern on your upholstered pieces with our Courtney Spa pillows.

On either side of your white cabinet we suggest adding a pair of chairs or two different chair styles to vary the texture. Our Dixon Leather Chair in mineral is a nice contract to our Shiloh Chair and Ottoman in Buffalo Check Spa. Bring in an Allen Side Table for one of the chairs and don’t forget to include pretty lamps to the ‘just-right’ lighting. Our Malia Seeded Glass Lamp in Amber is a fabulous addition.

Have fun with your update and don’t be afraid to include color!

Happy Decorating!
