There we were, on a dreary, frosty morning last January, gathered around a conference room table brainstorming our Winter 2016 catalog when one recurring theme just kept resurfacing: hope. Hope that winter will end. Hope for sunshine and warmth. Hope for blossoming color.
When you’re in the dead of winter and dreaming of spring, there’s really only one thing you can do: fake it until you make it. Here are some of our favorite, fast ways to infuse every room with enough warmth and energy to keep your spirits going until the temps rise again.
Thanks to just a few simple touches, this room is like a breath of fresh air on a cold winter day. We upholstered a pair of swivel gliders in Suzanne Kasler Signature 13oz. Linen Blush for pick-me-up color that emanates soft warmth. And one of our favorite ways to add a dash of color and texture to a room is through the use of greenery. We filled a vase with oversized branches full of blossoms and topped the coffee table with a potted plant. Stop by your local nursery or florist to see what you can bring home — or go faux.
This room proves one of the easiest ways to beat the mid-winter doldrums is through the use of color. Choose one accent color — a lighter, brighter hue — and run with it. We took our cue from the great outdoors and chose a fresh spring green and repeated it in the chandelier shades, leaf wall art and Boxwood Heart Wreaths. Between the cheery color and botanical motifs, it already feels like spring has sprung.
Yearning for beach weather? Nothing says you can’t warm your spirits with the relaxing feel of a seaside cottage in your own home. In this cozy bedroom, we layered in a classic nautical color scheme with lots of lightweight, natural textures and charming decor that reminds us of our summer travels. The compass above the headboard points the way to sunnier days ahead. Dream on!
Sometimes, switching out a piece of art can make all the difference. The deep jewel-toned velvet pillows feel right at home in winter, but Exclusive Artist Kiki Slaughter‘s vividly colored abstract has us dreaming of seascapes. We also traded heavy curtains for bright white panels that seem to amplify the light — a welcome presence in winter. Switching out oil-rubbed bronze hardware for brighter brass accents makes a subtle difference, too.
Here are two more examples of how a pop of color and botanical imagery can instantly revive a room. For us, this coral with dusty rose undertones is the color of the moment. We even added it to our Jardin Toile Bedding collection and created a matching panel. Upgrade your decor with this joyful accent color and you won’t be sorry — but you will feel better about facing winter.
