Dear How to Decorate,
I’m struggling to figure out furniture placement in my living room. The space has a center fireplace with two windows on either side. Next to one of the windows is a door to the master bedroom.
I want to place furniture so that the entry to the master is a bit concealed. Please help! I am ok with hanging the TV over the fireplace but want an overall cozy and welcoming feel.
Thanks,
Pravina
Pravina,
Your furniture placement struggle is over! With a few additions, we will give you the cozy feel you desire.
We started your transformation by layering the Catherine Rug over your carpet. The rug gives us a starting point for color and defines your seating arrangement. For better traffic flow we have replaced your sectional with our Slipcovered Baldwin Sofa in Trilby Basketweave Bark. Our Morgan End Table next to the sofa will compliment your trim molding and is perfect for the addition of a blue Suzanne Kasler Chapelle Lamp. The generous size of the round Bornova Coffee Table will give you a resting place for your favorite books and family mementos.
The wall that contains your ‘pass through’ needs some personality and balance. Our black Louis XVI Sideboard to the left of the opening gives you a beautiful storage option and a perch for a pair of Mercury Glass Lamps. Personality also requires color, so we suggest our Emerald Jubilation painting.
Adding two Rebecca Swivel Chairs in Suzanne Kasler Santa Monica Stripe will complete your furniture layout on this side of the room. We suggest the Santa Monica Stripe fabric not only for its beauty – it enhances the colors in the rug – but it is soft and durable because it is a Sunbrella fabric. We added a touch of modern with the selection Hexagon Acrylic Side Table tucked between the chairs.
Your windows desperately need their corners softened with all the prominent trim in the space so we suggest our Courtney Drapery Panels to accomplish this problem with color and pattern. Our Sofia Chair, in a Sunbrella Cheetah Taupe fabric, will create a cozy reading nook when combined with the Log Garden Seat and the Karen Floor Lamp! The Cassidy Mirror adds sparkle and a bit color so let’s hang it above the fireplace to solidify it as a focal point in the room. A couple of Leather Cubes in Mineral is an easy way to add extra seating to any area of the room.
Lastly, we have the Courtney Spa, Meyers, Cheetah Taupe and Santa Monica Stripe readymade pillows to sprinkle around the room for color, texture and pattern.
We know these suggestions will give you the cozy room of your dreams.
Happy Decorating!
