Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.
Hello Design Team,
We are finally finishing up the renovation of our row. Please help me re-imagine our open floor plan so that we can pull our spaces together harmoniously with beautiful furnishings. Our home is long and narrow with tall ceilings and an exposed brick wall. Each space runs into the next but I don’t know how to differentiate between them in a way that compliments each one individually but still flows together.
We are proud owners of a few Ballard furnishings already. The Vetrina 60 inch Media Console, three Tall Durham Bookcases, and a Round Braided Jute Rug. I haven’t been able to come up with a style concept that incorporates them all together. I am retiring our couch and chair, ottomans, red console and dining chairs. Please help me find a way to make our row home come alive!
Thanks so much,
Hailey and Jeff Dickinson
Dear Hailey and Jeff-
You are headed down the home stretch with your home renovation, and we’re happy to help you get to your “design finish line!” We put together a floor plan and some suggested pieces that will coordinate with your existing furniture as well as define areas in your home.
For the living room, we propose adding the Granada rug to create a designated space. We also suggest moving two of the Durham bookcases to create a wall … so to speak … between the dining area and the living room. We added a storage ottoman, which is a great way to maximize space and function. Lastly, the Leyland Armless Chairs and the Eton Sofa offers the perfect scale and sophistication for a row home.
For the dining area, the Constance Dining Chair, in worn white, coordinates nicely with the Vetrina Media Console you currently own. It also adds a nice flow from one space to the other. The Braden Console Table gives a sense of space with its openness and pairs nicely with your solid butcher block table.
Lastly, we added the Amiel Arch Antiqued Leaner Mirror to give the illusion of additional space and it can reflect the new Family Tree Artwork on the opposite wall. This artwork brings all the colors from each room together, bringing flow and vibrant life into your home. We hope you are happy with our design ideas that will make your beautiful home complete!
Happy Decorating!
