Dear How to Decorate,
I am trying to decide how to arrange the furniture in this room. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are one large room. I have thought about getting a couple chairs and a console table to go behind the sofa.
We are also on the lookout for a farmhouse table and chairs to replace our existing table. I kind of like metal chairs with a farmhouse table. I recently ordered the two metal bar stools seen in one of the photos to see if I would like them, but would it be too much metal if I did metal chairs at dining table as well? I am not sold on the bar stools.
I like the farmhouse look however I also like clean lines. If you have any ideas on how to decorate shelving that would be amazing as well! I just need help with furniture placement in the living room, and if you have any ideas on furniture that’s helpful as well!

What a great space! You can definitely accomplish a more rustic styling, while still maintaining nice and clean lines, by focusing the design on building textures throughout the space.
To start, our Tatum Dining Table would be a great pick to tie in your metal barstools, without overwhelming the space with additional metal chairs. It pairs perfectly with our Coventry Bench in Mia Gray on one side, and Oval Louis Side Chairs in Sunbrella Taupe/Mia Gray on the other. Our Found European Paddles will look great over your sideboard, and the Surrey Pleated Panels help frame off the space perfectly, while still keeping a feminine and soft touch to the room. Tour Adelaide Rug grounds the dining room and the Marias Chandelier adds the perfect finishing touch to this space. The varying textures and seat styles help to set a rustic tone to the space, which we’ll carry throughout the rest of this room.
In the living room, let’s add a sofa table! Our Durham Console is the perfect piece for carrying the rustic tones of the dining table over to this side of the room, and pairs perfectly with the Suzanne Kasler Mercury Lamp and Braided Jute Basket for more texture in the space. Which Andrews table? I’d suggest the 48″ Coventry Bench for either the 48 or 60″ round and the 60″ or 72″ Coventry Bench for the rectangular pedestal table.
