Incorporating farmhouse decor doesn’t mean you have to live out on the farm. Whether you’re in a suburban development or a high rise in the city, these tips will help you find your modern farmhouse style, no matter where you call home.
1. Use Neutrals
The first step to farmhouse decor is all about your color palette. Stick with whites, creams and beige as your base. These colors will set the tone as you are decorating the rest of your home.
2. Incorporate Shiplap
If you’ve ever seen an episode of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ show Fixer Upper then you know about the craze that is shiplap. Originally used as barn wood, these boards have made their ways indoors as paneling and accent walls. If you’re not ready to devote an entire wall to shiplap, you can start small with our our Shiplap Shelf with Hooks or our Crawford Shiplap Entry Cabinet.
3. Distressed is Best
Distressed furniture is a farmhouse staple, due to it’s relaxed and lived in feel. But that doesn’t mean you have to start sanding down your kitchen table or go searching through antique shops for worn out pieces. Some of our favorite distressed looks include our Ceylon Whitewash Collection and our Casa Florentina Collection. Not on board for larger distressed pieces? Add smaller accents like this mirror or this shutter wall decor.
4. Embrace Burlap
The great thing about burlap is that it works in any room. From bedding to bath, at the office or even on the sofa. Not to mention, burlap pairs well with the farmhouse color scheme and will stand out among your everyday fabrics.
5. Add Rustic Touches
The definition of rustic is “having a simplicity and charm that is considered typical of the countryside.” If that doesn’t scream farmhouse, we don’t know what does. Although, that definition is a bit vague, so we went ahead and picked out our favorite rustic furniture pieces for you:
- Durham Round Coffee Table
- Sidney Dining Tables
- Toulouse Tall Bookcase
- Delano Iron Door Console Table
