The Right Size Chandelier by Merry N.

Dear Style Studio,

My room is 17-by-17 and the ceilings are 16-and-a-half feet tall.

There doesn’t seem to be any chandeliers that are the correct proportion for my ‘French country eclectic bedroom.’

I really love the simplicity of Cosette, and thought if I dressed it up with 10 crystal drops that it would fit in my 1840’s rustic farm house.

Would the volume of the room make the 45″ Cosette work in that room? Or, do you suggest that I go with being strict with your formula on figuring the correct size? That formula indicates a 34-inch chandelier.

Cosette’s chain is 7′ long, which would put it at about 9 1/2 feet up from the floor. Is this the correct height for a bedroom?

I am mulling over the Louis XVI Poster bed but may not go that route. I have an antique trumeau over a tall fireplace and a really tall and long armoire.

I suppose the light should be visible through the mirror, as that was their original purpose.

Thanks!

Merry N.

Style Studio Response

Dear Merry,

Thank you for your dilemma. We agree with you about the Cosette Chandelier – we think it would be perfect for the space. Because of its simple design, the diameter of the light will not matter.

The formula for our chandeliers is only a guideline and not etched in stone. According to your description of the bedroom – the Cosette seems like the perfect choice.

The standard height for a chandelier not hanging above a table should be about eight feet from the floor, so perhaps you could add some more chain.

Send us a picture when you are finished with your project.  We would love to post it on Style Studio.

Happy Decorating!
