Question:
My problem is an oversized fireplace and mantel. The fireplace measures 7 feet across and 6 feet from mantel to floor. I think I need oversized items to balance it. There are two electrical outlets in the wall just above the mantel.
Thank you.
Beth
Answer:
Dear Beth,
We do hope that we can offer some suggestions that will remedy your mantel issues. On our website there is a wall sconce (plug in) that may solve your problem. It is called the Ravenna Sconce. It is available in two finishes but the Antique Brass one should work well with your framed artwork. One placed on either side of the artwork, with the top of the sconces about half way to two thirds up the print should work.
Because everything on that wall is symmetrical, we think moving the urns over to the right side (facing the fireplace) and setting one of them on a pedestal at the bottom corner of the print and the other urn angled in front should help to soften the look. The pedestal should be about 6” in height. You certainly have enough room to place perhaps, a sizeable leather chest on the left side of the print. We do realize that the sconces are a bit pricey, but we think they have real presence. You do need ones that are substantial, so we choose them as an example. The fact that they can be plugged in eliminates the need to hire an electrician which, in turn, will save some money.
Hopefully, these suggestions will help you solve your fireplace design dilemma. Please send us photos of the completed project as we would love to post them on Style Studio.
Sincerely,
The Style Studio Team
