Bedroom Disaster

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

My bedroom is a disaster.

Apart from being under construction, I would like to have a peaceful retreat to go to on a daily basis.

I don’t spend time in there due to the chaotic mess I have! I’m completely lost and don’t know where to start.

I have sliding doors leading to the patio. I’m missing closet doors and am currently using curtains. The small door next to my closet is the bathroom.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Signed,

Carmen

Hi Carmen,

We certainly understand that sometimes it is hard to find inspiration when trying to style a room. We have reviewed your bedroom and want to share a few ideas that will help you to turn your Bedroom Disaster into a Bedroom Haven.

Your first task – eliminate the clutter – Spring is a great time to clear away things that aren’t needed anymore.
We chose the Charleville Bedding for a luxurious look.

Since your bed is white, the rich colors of this group provide a nice contrast and the patterned fabric will create a restful retreat to enjoy.
Next to your bed, why not try two of the Louis XVI Side Tables in a Limed finish.

These tables will provide good bedside storage but their color will keep their presence subtle.
Next, top these tables with Suzanne Kasler Gourd Lamps in Greyed Green.
To finish off your bed setting, add our Blue Reflections Print above your bed.

We suggest adding two of the Upholstered Cube in Queens Velvet Celedon to the foot of your bed. Under these cubes, place the Colby Rug to finish off the elegant and restful feeling in your room. We would love to see you replace the closet doors with new ones.

It would really be money well-spent as it will give your room a finished look. But, if you have to keep the two sets of drapery panels in your room, we recommend they both be the same style and fabric.
We think the Burlap Pleated Panels would give you a relaxed sophistication, plus this style panel has fabulous fringe that adds a great detail.

The last thought would be to switch your white rod to a darker rod to give a nice contrast.
With a few additions here and there fueled with a little inspiration, your room will be the perfect retreat.

Happy Decorating!
