Decorating A New Living Room

Dear Style Studio team:

We just moved into a new house with two living rooms, and are at a loss for how to arrange and decorate this one.

The space is 15-feet-by-16-feet. We have two teenage boys and two dogs, and have had so many disasters with rugs and our Pekingese that we’d rather not have rugs right now.

The choices are overwhelming, but I love things that are comfy and practical, and nature-inspired. Just not sure what to put in there!

I found a huge thrift shop painting, and I’d love to give a go at painting something over it.

Thank you so much for any ideas!!!!

Wendy,

We are excited to share some ideas that the Style Studio team pulled together.  We created a floor plan with a furniture layout that we think would work best for your lifestyle.

Cold and New Living Room

First, because you need good seating and you have lots of fun in the house, we recommend the Baldwin Corner Loveseat Sectional Slipcover and Frame (Celadon Microfiber).

This fabric color is a good start because it reminds us of nature and the easy care of microfiber will be beneficial.

Next, layer your sectional with comfy throw pillows in fabrics such as these: Burlap, Savant Stripe Spa and Chocolate, Herringbone Burlap Pillow, Belgrano Ikat Spa or Chocolate Twill.

The colors of these pillows can be found in nature and will give you a soft color palette.

On one end of the sectional, we recommend the Durham End Table with a Malia Seeded Glass Lamp resting on top.

On the opposite end of the sectional, we suggest the Woodland Round End Table topped with a round piece of glass.

Right behind this round table, nestle the Julian Apothecary Floor Lamp in Oil Rubbed Bronze.

You mentioned that you are to paint a picture to go into the room. Perfect! Since that painting will look lovely over the fireplace, we recommend adding the large D’or Sunburst Mirror over the sectional.

Next, consider lining up three Leather Poufs (Chocolate) in front of the fireplace and then finish off the front of the sectional with the Kent Leather Ottoman (Chocolate or Almond).

To complete your sitting group, we recommend a Laney Indoor/Outdoor Rug in Chocolate.

Decorating A New Living Room

Don’t forget the big wall opposite of the sectional. Grace this area with the three-piece Tuscan Bookcase Set in brown. Your library will have the perfect storage options with this group. Gather some of your favorite pictures and create two groups on either side of this beautiful bookshelf or add additional lighting to the room by installing wall sconces.

To top off your easy new room, replace the existing formal chandelier with the Orb Chandelier in bronze. This light fixture will provide good lighting as well as good styling.

Happy Decorating!
