This is a great family project! Get the kids involved in making their own Easter Basket!
Supplies:
Basket color felt cut in the following pieces:
- 1 – 6.5” x 8.5”
- 1 – 23” x 18”
- 2 – 20” x 2”
Felt Accents:
- 4 Felt Flower petals cut with cookie cutter pattern
- 4 Felt Circles: 2 – .5” and 2 – 1”
Small print fabric strips:
- 2 – 3” x 12”
- 2 – 4” x 18”
Piece of Foam core board – 6.5” x 8.5”
Strip of file folder – 1” x 18” (for handle)
Skein of Crewel thread (For use with hand stitching)

- Fold felt piece (23” x 18”) in half (11.5” x 18”) and stitch up the short side on both ends. Leave a 3/8” seam allowance.
- Make boxed corners by opening pocket and folding in the opposite direction with the seam now falling right in the middle. Now mark 3.5”, starting at the point and measuring up the seam. Now stitch side-to-side, creating a triangle.
- Trim excess triangle fabric, leaving a 3/8” seam allowance.
- Turn inside out to form your basket and fold top over.
- Glue felt piece (6.5” x 8.5”) to the cut foam core, then insert into bottom of basket.
- With cut file folder strip (1” x 18”) sandwiched between felt strips (2” x 20”), stitch around the perimeter to create the basket handle.
- Stitch handle to basket directly over side seams. After layering with felt petal and felt circle, attach to end of basket to conceal end of basket handle.
- Fold small print fabric strips lengthwise. Sew a gathering stitch in each strip, pull and secure to create a flower.
