Dear Style Studio Team,
I have a small niche at the top of my basement stairs and adjacent to my front door, that I just don’t know what to do with.
It measures 64×64 and can be seen from our living area, kitchen and dining room. I have tried a bench in that area with some wall hangings and I just can’t seem to get it to come together.
Also, right around the corner, is the staircase that is also a decorating dilemma! It is also in main sight, being open to the dining area and front entrance.
Please help! These two areas of my home need some style!
Signed,
Monica
Monica,
What a fantastic little gem tucked behind your front door! We see this little treasure as a reading nook … a little spot for momentary solace from a hectic day.
Below is a simple plan that we think will give this area an identity.
We start with a simple rug … our Light Sisal Rug trimmed in khaki will do the trick.
For your seating, add our Leyland Armless chair upholstered in Velvet Pumpkin. Place a footstool covered with our Moroccan Stripe in front of the chair to give a place for your feet to rest.
Now place our walnut finish Compass side table next to the chair along with our Julian Apothecary floor lamp in antique bronze tucked behind the chair.
Your books will have a fabulous home neatly stored on the Turin Bookcase. We recommend trying the Distressed Terra Cotta finish for something different. Our Floral Inspiration Giclee will provide the exact punch of artistic color on the wall behind the chair.
We know that sometimes you want someone to join you, so pull up our Leather Pouf in Almond to finish out your adorable space.
For the wall underneath your stairs, try something a bit whimsical and unexpected … our Tole Topiary Plaque.
Bump your bench to the right a bit to open up just enough space for the plaque to the left.
Now we recommend adding two or three pieces of our Pine and Conifer Artwork above your bench.
Finish off the bench with a cushion or a couple of throw pillows.
Have fun with your newly found space and Happy Decorating!
