Dear Style Studio Team,
My master bedroom is large and tends to look empty and cold.
I am thinking I might like to arrange furniture for a reading space but am not sure how to do so especially given the fireplace in the middle of everything. The room dimensions are 16 feet by 28 feet.
Without breaking the bank, could you please provide some of your top suggestions for improvement?
Thank you.
Ruth
Dear Ruth,
Beautiful fireplace – what a bonus! We think your master bedroom is perfect for an intimate conversation group.
Since you have a large bedroom, the only way to create this area is to add pieces that make sense.
Also, adding layers of various wood finishes, color hues and warm light sources will give your room depth to counter the “icy” feeling of the space.
Since your current rug is solid in appearance, we think you need to add a layer of pattern and color.
A great way to accomplish this is by adding a rug to delineate the sitting area. We suggest the Gwyneth Rug as the perfect choice.
Now pull in our Nottinghill Loveseat upholstered in Velvet Sage along with a chaise lounge in Trilby Beasketweave Natural.
We are sure you will need to add tables for your morning coffee or tea, so our suggestion is the Morgan Small Cocktail table in rubbed black for the front of the loveseat. This dark finish will be a nice echo of your bed frame finish.
For the side table, consider the Caprice Side Table in walnut.
The back right corner of the room is a great spot for a couple of our new Wood Columns … use at least two different sizes for architectural interest.
On the wall behind the columns, stack three of our Bellesol MirrorsĀ for a reflective impact.
An easy way to add purpose to the mantel is to frame your current art work in a simple dark frame … this will bring your eye to the rooms’ primary focal point.
Another accessory suggestion is to group together several of our Caved Wood Candle Holders, along with a pair of our Garden Doves, on your mantel.
Since you have plenty of space, consider adorning the back of your loveseat with a desk. Our Claremont Desk in Tuscan brown would be fabulous, especially if paired with our Camille Tufted Chair in Danish linen oatmeal.
Bring in a desk lamp and a beautiful bookcase on the fireplace wall to create your cozy home office.
Remember to include table and floor lamps in your plan because these light sources will provide a warm glow of light against the cool walls and carpet.
Rearranging and rethinking existing furniture can give you an all new perspective of your space. Armed with a fresh perspective and a workable plan, a room will come together and feel as if it has always been that way … home.
Happy Decorating!

By chance do you still offer advice in 2022 ?
If so, what fee do you charge?
Sincerely,
