Seasonal Update: How to Refresh Your Look for Fall

39697

Time is flying by, and summer will be over before you know it. Long, hot days will soon give way to cooler mornings, crisp air and changing leaves. As you begin the process of transitioning your wardrobe from summer’s sundresses and sandals to fall’s sweaters and boots, think about refreshing your interiors, too. It only takes a few simple changes to get your home ready to welcome this much-loved season and the friends and family it brings to your doorstep.

Fall for Color

Take a cue from nature’s amazing autumnal palette and introduce some warm, earthy colors into your décor. Mossy greens, rich browns, spicy oranges, deep plums and muted blues will instantly make your space feel more toasty and inviting.  Look to our new-for-fall fabrics for inspiration – the sumptuous shades and bold patterns will bring the season to life in every room of your house.

Fall is the season to focus on all things hearth and home, which makes comfortable living essential. Consider not only how your space looks, but how it feels. Roll up the natural-fiber rug and put a thick, cushy tufted-wool rug down in its place. Replace the cool, white slipcover on your sofa with one in a cozier, weightier fabric like our Sybil Plum or Document Gray. And keep a soft fleece throw on the arm of your favorite reading chair, just the thing for curling up with a mug of cocoa and a good book.

Shorter days and dropping temperatures make us want to spend more time snuggled up under the covers. Get your room ready for this seasonal nesting by swapping out the lightweight quilt on your bed for a plush down duvet covered in a cozy print like our Timur Orange or Deville Seafoam. Change the lightweight linen throw pillows for ones in heartier velvet, embroidery or twill. And take down the sheer, breezy curtain panels and put up ones in a bolder, more substantial fabric, like our new Fiona Brown or Hughes Stripe Purple.

Prepare your home for family gatherings and holiday meals by bringing some extra warmth to your dining spaces. Cover your chairs and table in gracious fall tones like our Deville Brown or Fletcher Stripe Spice fabrics. Add pillows to your dining chairs to encourage lingering at the table. And showcase the season’s natural beauty with vases of freshly cut fall flowers, bowls of just-gathered pinecones and the shimmering, mellow light of candles.

Though seemingly small, a few thoughtful touches like these will wrap your home in the rich, warm glow of fall, all season long.
