Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.
Dear How to Decorate,
I desperately need your help with my dining room. I am making changes in other parts of my home and moving more toward a contemporary/transitional look.
The dining set and china cabinet must stay. I can sew and reupholster furniture, so that is an option as well. I would be willing to replace two of the chairs with a bench if your design ideas warrant it. I am open to all ideas and changes to help me love my dining room.
Also, the nook is 60 inches wide, and 27 wide inches on the right side of the wall and 24.5 wide on the left. It is odd shaped. I never quite know what to put there.
Also, what accessories would look best? Should I change the chandelier? I would love to have more of a designer look to the room to make it go from blah to fabulous!
Thanks for any help!
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
Infusing your space with a little color and texture will certainly bring your dining room out of the “doldrums zone.”
We first recommend replacing your existing drapery panels with our Quatrefoil Embroidered Panels in Spa. We adore the quatrefoil pattern these panels showcase. Next hang the Garden Suite Prints on the wall to the left of the window.
Continue your transformation by reupholstering your dining chairs in Microfiber Fog. This fabric will bring in a soft texture for a luxurious style.
The recessed architectural break in your back wall is the ideal space for our Varese Demilune in Distressed Blue Gray. Top it with a large Bellesole Mirror and then rest an Oyster Shell Box centered on top of the demilune. You will love the updated results.
As a final touch, add our Giant Clam Shell to the center of your dining table. This piece is outstanding because you can fill it with different treasures … depending on the season. It also looks amazing filled with small succulent plants.
Happy Decorating!
