#CelebrateBallard with Carmel on Pinterest
Ballard Designs is turning 30 years old! To celebrate the occasion, we’ve asked one of our favorite bloggers – Carmel Phillips of Our Fifth House – to curate her very own Pinterest board featuring 30 of her favorite things from Ballard Designs. We seriously love how Carmel isn’t afraid to be bold in her designs – she mixes rich colors with eclectic prints to make her home truly unique while keeping it comfy. Let’s get to know a little bit more about the woman behind the blog, shall we?
“I love a good mix of styles, patterns and textures. And I’m a huge fan of bold color.”
The Scoop
BD: If you could describe your decorating style in one sentence, what would it be?
CP: One sentence – hmmm, that’s hard. My style is sort of all over the map. To describe it in one sentence I’d have to say my style is classic with a twist. I love a good mix of styles, patterns and textures. And I’m a huge fan of bold color.
BD: How and where do you find your inspiration?
CP: I find inspiration everywhere – from where I live (Lexington, KY surrounded by beautiful horse farms) to blogs, catalogs and magazines. I also find loads of inspiration from shop window displays – Anthropologie and J Crew come to mind especially.
BD: What’s been the most challenging part of your home to decorate, and how did you overcome it?
CP: My living/family room has been a bit of decorating challenge as there is not a solid wall in the room. It’s a central room to the house, and every wall has an entrance to another room or area of the house. I overcame it by floating the living space in the middle of the room with room to move around easily.
BD: What’s the one thing every style-conscious homeowner should have?
CP: A great mirror, and if you are able, grab a bunch more than just one. Mirrors never go out of style and are easy to move from room to room.
BD: And last but certainly not least, what do you love most about sharing your home on your blog?
CP: I love being a small part of such a supportive and inspiring community!
