Dear How to Decorate,
I’ve painted my dining room Smoky Mountain from Benjamin Moore and I need help with curtains and decor. Please help. The curtains I have now are gray velvet and just not working for me.
Thanks,
Ann
Ann,
Your dining room has wonderful high ceilings and volume; we have selected window treatments, a rug, artwork and furniture pieces to enhance that volume and height.
Utilizing our Deauville Drapery Rods in pewter, hang a longer length of our Firenze Spa Drapery Panels high above the standard windows. Our Firenze Drapery Panels will give a sophisticated high contrast to the dramatic wall color. On each side of the windows, we suggest placing two of our Seneca Display Cabinets to provide the perfect place to display your china. Top off each cabinet with two of our Ivory and Gold Botanical Prints to play on the height of the room. Another thought to add additional beauty to your room is to add the Dehavilland 3-Drawer Console in mahogany to the wall adjacent the windows. The dark tones of the Seneca cabinet and the Dehavilland console are both complimentary wood companions to the base of your dining table.
It is always important to have good lighting, and two of the Suzanne Kasler Mercury Glass Lamps perched atop the console will provide ample lighting for this side of the room. We love reflective quality of the mercury glass in contrast to the rich paint color of the walls. Above the console we suggest an abstract painting like Portal Art. The soothing colors of spa, gray and taupe will, once again, give another high contrast to the Smoky Mountain paint color.
We recommend grounding the room with our Devlin Rug. It’s scrolling vine and floral pattern adds interest and warmth to your tile floor. The icing on the room is the addition of the jewelry inspired Alexis 8 light chandelier. It’s gold and silver finish gives it depth and dimension as well as a fabulous reflective quality. Consider adding a dimmer to the chandelier to allow you the ability to control the intensity of the light.
We know that making our suggested edits and additions will morph the room into the space you envisioned.
Happy Decorating!
