Dear How to Decorate,
I’ve used several Ballard Designs pieces throughout my house, but the one area where I feel stuck is my family room. The room opens up to a kitchen and has multiple doors. The tv will eventually be replaced by a wall mounted large screen.
I need advice on furniture arrangement that doesn’t block the doors, as well as suggestions on seating options, a coffee table or ottoman, and a rug.
They need to be durable enough to withstand a toddler.
Thanks for your help,
Nikki
Dear Nikki,
It’s a lovely, cozy space. Let’s add a few pieces to bring up the style and function. The wall color is very nice so we can build on that with our Livonia Indoor Outdoor Rug. With a Spa, Green, Tan and Cream color scheme and graphic scale, it’s perfect for adding pizzazz to a room with lots of traffic and toddlers. If possible, you could replace the end section of your sofa with a comfortable Larkin Swivel Glider. We suggest selecting Sunbrella Herringbone Spa for easy cleaning.
We think the Durham End Table and a pair of the Durham Nesting Tables for a cocktail table will lighten the look with its open frame. The Durham frames will allow for baskets to be added underneath as storage for organizing toys, magazines, etc. Our Leather Cube Ottoman in Moss is great for movable extra seating or to kicking your feet up. Below your television, our slim profile Martin Console in Walnut Brown, at just 10 3/4” wide, is ideal. This piece will allow easy passage through the doorways and also provide some storage.
Accessories always make a room! For your space, let’s bring in Suzanne Kasler Gourd Lamp in Gray Green to perch on your end table and hang the Orb Chandelier to give the room a soft glow. The Bellesol Mirror in Medium will add a little sparkle and light above the sofa and we suggest the Mineral Sea Art for its color on the adjacent wall. We hope these suggestions will help you with your floor plan.
Happy Decorating!
