Dear How to Decorate,
We have just bought a fairly new house and are in the process of getting furniture. We love this house but are perplexed by the fact that there is no cable access over the fireplace!
I have tried every arrangement possible on paper of the best way to arrange the family room. There are really only two walls, (walkway and kitchen uses other space) one of which houses the fireplace and two windows.
Help!
Lindsey
Dear Lindsey,
Furniture arrangement in a space can leave you without direction when you want to incorporate two different focal points. Since you have a large wall adjacent to your fireplace, we suggest housing your media components in a large furniture piece along this wall. Our Tuscan 4-pc. Media Cabinet will fill out your large wall beautifully and provide the perfect amount of media storage. You can even flank the cabinet with two Leather Ottomans in Almond for stow away seating. Hang a Garden District Leaner Mirror behind each ottoman to expand the natural light flooding the room.
The fireplace can be the visual balance of the media wall by adding a large piece of artwork above the mantel. Our Floral Muse Art encompasses colors that will bring harmony into the room. Hang Document Brown drapery panels on each window to finish out a stunning wall.
The center of the room will become the hub of the conversation group when anchored with our Davenport Sectional. Slipcover this frame in Suzanne Kasler Linen Greige and then load it with fun pillows like Suzanne Kasler’s Linen Pillows, a pillow in our Kaley Aqua, or our Parker Flange Raffia Pillow. Include our Durham Cocktail Table and Durham Nesting Tables to give horizontal spaces for drinks and accessories. The cocktail table gives an easy storage solution, too.
The Baldwin Club Chair and Ottoman will fill the empty corner to the right of the fireplace. We chose in our Aryanna Spa fabric because of the gorgeous color and pattern. Pair it with our Bornova Side Table in whitewash and a Sloan Floor lamp for adequate lighting.
The final touch will be personal treasures tucked into the room. These are the most important objects that will turn your space into a home.
Happy Decorating!
