Decorating Dilemmas: Grace’s Dining Room

Adding finishing touches to a dining room

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

Help! My dining room is a dud. It’s boring and in desperate need of decorating help.

I’m open and willing to try anything. I need accessories, curtains, wall art, and would even like to add some upolstered chairs.

Thanks,

Grace

Grace,

You have given us a great starting point; we can add a little color and texture to transform a “boring dud” to a marvelous, inviting space.

You stated you were open to anything, so let’s bring in some sophisticated color by replacing your host and hostess chairs with a pair of Winged Chairs in Suzanne Kasler’s Santa Monica Stripe. Since this fabric is made of Sunbrella fibers, it is durable and beautiful at the same time!

Art is so personal, but one suggestion we have is replacing the mirror above your sideboard with Morris Seabirds. If you taste is a little more abstract, Suzanne Kasler’s Reflecting Abstract Framed Art is a colorful option. For additional sparkle, consider adding a pair of Mercury Stacked Ball lamps on your sideboard.

Drapery panels are a great way to add softness and more color to the room, our Signature Velvet Panels in Oasis will compliment the blue in the Santa Monica Stripe fabric perfectly.

To bring in even more texture and a little bit of nature, add a collection of the Preserved Boxwood Topiaries to your table.

We hope these designs ideas will transform your space. We love to see your suggestions come to life, send us photos.

Happy Decorating!
