Decorating Dilemmas: Ivy’s Master Bedroom

Decorating Ivy's master bedroom

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

I’m from Scottsdale, AZ and fell in love with this rug for our master bedroom. Now, I feel stuck on what bedding or art work to use.

I replaced this headboard with another one, a tufted cream headboard, thinking it would help me, but I’m still at a loss.

Help,

Ivy

Dear Ivy,

Thank you for sending our team pictures of your lovely master bedroom. We’d love to help you pull together a warm and inviting space for you to retreat. You prepared a wonderful foundation for the space so let’s add a few accessories to pull the room together for a finished and polished design!

To start, we suggest layering your bed with our Ansley Tassel Bedding in Natural. We believe your existing coverlet will work beautifully with this bedding, and may stay in place as is. Consider folding the Ansley Duvet at the bottom of your bed for a soft plush look. Next, place two 26” Custom Pillow Covers, in the Courtney Peacock, as a fun pop of color and pattern against your existing upholstered headboard. To mirror the Ansley duvet, we suggest adding two standard Ansley shams in front of the 26” pillows. To complete the bedding, please layer in two of our Signature Velvet and Linen Pillows in deep teal, accompanied by one Zebra Needle Print Pillow in natural.

For a final touch of beauty and style, we suggest hanging our Grand Palais Round Mirror in antique silver over your headboard. You may consider adding a few fun prints to tie in the deep teal color reflected in the textiles. We suggest our Spotted Feather Art, prints I and II in 30”X24”.

Enjoy your beautiful space!

Happy Decorating!

Ps. I would suggest she lighten up on her blinds!

I love the mirror you are suggesting. However, I have a question…is it old-fashioned to consider the function of the mirror…in the old days, we didn’t put a mirror where 1) you couldn’t see yourself easily, or 2) it wasn’t reflecting something appealing. If I put that great mirror over my headboard it would be too high for checking my appearance and would reflect my wall mounted TV! What’s another option? I love reading these dilemmas…how can I send one in for your help?

Since she has the round wall hanging to the left (in picture), I’m surprised you are having her add the round wall mirror above the bed. Isnt that too much “round”. Otherwise, I think the rest is beautiful!
