Decorating Dilemma: Kirk & Hailey’s Large Bedroom

Helping Kirk and Hailey decorate their large, empty master bedroom

Decorating Dilemmas is a weekly column in which our stylists answer your design questions, so you can tackle your home decorating project with complete confidence.

Dear How to Decorate,

We have a large, bare, empty bedroom with a lot of brown! We painted the walls wedge wood grey to bring in some color, but now we’re stuck! How do we fill up all this space?! We will need to keep our bed and dresser. If we can make use of the mirror that would be awesome.

The room is 17 x 14.5. I attached pictures of each empty blah wall. I would like to bring some life to this room!!

Help,

Kirk & Hailey

Hi Hailey,

The color you’ve chosen is such a great start for a soothing bedroom. We used that as our jumping off point for your space. First, we want to layer your bed in comfy bedding with our Gwyneth Buffalo Check and Audree Pom Pom collections layered. This will create an amazing statement in the room. Place a couple of throw pillows, like our Courtney Spa pillow and Velvet pillows, to ramp up the color saturation and fabulous texture. Top the headboard off with our Vintage Cloisonné Prints and then bring in more substantial bed side tables to match the scale of your bed frame. Pair the Gemma Table Lamp with our the Isabella Large Nighstand with Charging Station for to combine both function and form. Swath your windows in Suzanne Kasler Drapery panels in Blanc and then install them on our French Return drapery hardware for a more relaxed feeling. Finally, move your existing artwork to the dresser and finalize with a single lamp.

What about the opposite end of the room? We suggest hanging our Grand Palais Mirror group to the left of the hallway door and then tuck a Davis Tufted Ottoman just below it to ground it into the room. As a bonus it can be pulled over as a footrest in front of two Leyland Upholstered Chairs upholstered in Ellie Snow. Add colorful art like the Garden Whimsy Prints and a repeat a couple of the velvet pillows that we positioned on your bed. Don’t forget a floor lamp – our Julian Apothecary Lamp gives the perfect amount of light for evening reading.

Happy Decorating!
