Feature Friday: 2016 Flashback

Wraparound porch at the Southern Living 2016 Idea House in Mt. Laurel outside Birmingham, Alabama

Alright, we’re about to get a little sentimental here. 2016 flew by in the blink of an eye, and we want to look back and share some of our favorite memories. From show houses to publication covers to store openings, Ballard Designs had another great year!

Like in years past, we worked with Southern Living on the Idea House, which brings together a renowned team of designers to build and design a quintessential Southern home. In 2016, the Southern Living team celebrated the magazine’s 50th anniversary. We were thrilled that our pieces were dotted throughout the charming house situated in Southern Living’s hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. The picturesque wraparound porch featuring our Sunday Porch Swing, garden seats, and Suzanne Kasler’s Directoire Lounge Chairs made the July issue cover.

It is always such a pleasant surprise to flip through the pages of a magazine and see Ballard products we love!

We were so tickled when we came across Tim Gunn’s New York City apartment in Traditional Home. You will most likely know Tim Gunn as the mentor for up and coming designers on the television show, Project Runway. Tim is known for his fashion expertise, which extends into his interior design taste. His living room features our Louis XV Salon Chair customized in our Small Check Toffee fabric. He creates a cohesive living space by using the same fabric on our Oval Back Louis XVI Armchair, but mixes it up with a different finish on the frame. These classic chairs are sure to stay in fashion.

The New York Times showcased our Positano Cabana (now only available in the small size) because Designer Margaret Kirkland picked as one of her favorite new products. Margaret noted that our cabana is “a great destination for cocktails, reading or just to get out of the sun.” It’s not every day you get a feature like this one!

Buzzfeed surprised us when they listed out Hayden 3-Tiered Stand on their list of 22 things every lazy party host needs. Elizabeth Lilly notes that this stand can serve “as a centerpiece so you won’t have to get up during the meal.” We definitely agree; think ahead and put all the necessities in one place!

We cannot wait to see what 2017 has in store for us. We already have some exciting projects in the works and we know you’ll love them!
