One of the fastest ways to inject personality into your space is to hang art, and often times, we love hanging art together with other pieces to create a gallery wall. While there aren’t really any rules to creating a gallery wall, there are a few foolproof ways to make sure your pieces coordinate. Often, we use color as our guidelines.
In today’s post, we’ve pulled lots of different art pieces that work together, either on the same wall or just in the same room.
Spa has always been one of our favorite colors and the reason is because it complements so many different palettes. Any neutral colors scheme, dark blues, browns, greens, and even warmer color like yellow or orange.
When you’re choosing art pieces to hang together, consider incorporating different types of pieces in your space. If you already have an art piece that’s more traditional, like a pair of botanical prints, consider bringing in something with a completely different feel, like an abstract piece.
Choosing one dominate color is one easy way to make sure that all of the pieces in your room or on the same wall will complement each other. Here, we chose a dark navy. Each piece has navy in it, but the frames, sizes, and subjects all vary.
Another way to create a cohesive story with your art? Choose pieces with a similar theme or subject but reinterpreted in different ways. Most of these art pieces have a more tropical, natural vibe, but they each have a totally different style and feel.
Dont’ forget about mirrors, wall plaques, and clocks. In every gallery wall or room, we like to have a mixture of all three — several art pieces, at least one mirror, and a third piece like a shelf or clock. The variety keeps things interesting and ensures your pieces won’t compete with each other.

I have a large print of a photo I took while in Italy. It hangs above our king bed, and I feel like it’s a bit small. I would love to find a pair of prints – maybe abstract or impressionistic – to flank the photograph.

I have a large print that is 48″ x 48″ and I will be putting a small frame around it. It is of a large white dandelion head with a little of the stem. The colors are all neutral in the dark gray and white family and maybe some soft black. The piece is going above the couch in our family room. I was thinking of putting something on each side of it to give the square picture more of a rectangle look since it is going above a couch. The room is on the contemporary side. Any suggestions what might look good with it and if I should stay with framed art or could do canvases.

There are a couple of options I think could work with Fleur de la Mart. Super cute piece by the way with a great color palette. I like to think of having art pieces in a similar color palette but with different subjects and mediums. Another thing to consider, if you have one large square piece, bring in something rectangular. A variety of shapes and scales helps create that collected look we love.
Here are my suggestions, I’d bring in our Seasons Art. Any color would work, but the purple would bring out those shades in your Field de la Mart print. Then, maybe somewhere else in the room, use a grid of four of our Jellyfish Art prints. They’ll also bring out all of the colors in your print, but they have a different look and feel.

Great question. I mentioned to Hailey, but I have a couple of things I like to consider when shopping for art that works together. First, if you already have a large abstract piece, look for complementary pieces that have a different style, subject, and medium. For example, maybe it’s a grouping of botanical pieces in a similar color palette or some architectural prints. Or perhaps it’s a more traditional landscape. This will do two things, first, it’ll let the abstract piece you already have be the star without competing. It’ll also create a more layered, collected look which we love. I’d also keep in mind incorporating artwork in varying shapes. So maybe since your abstract is a rectangular oriented horizontally, bring in some square pieces or vertical ones.

We think an abstract print would be the perfect balance to our classic Buchoz Botanical Prints. Our Tracing Illusion Art, our Cool Mornings Art, or our Swept Art. All of these pieces have similar blue, taupe, and gray tones found in the Buchoz prints.
