Runway to Room: Fall 2017 Fashion Trends Translated

We’re often talking about how much fashion influences interior design, but it’s never as evident as when we share the spaces in our catalog and compare them to looks from the runway. Today, we thought we’d share how we’re interpreting Fall 2017 fashion trends, straight from the runways of NY Fashion Week, into spaces in the home.

All Americana

Looks with a distinctly American feel were ever present on the runways — think denim, quilting, cotton, and red, white, and blue color palettes. Of course, Calvin Klein is known for his American look, and we loved the way this quilted midi coat echoed a traditional quilt. We love that classic look of quilting too and designed our Isabella Bedroom around it, mixing with a chambray pattern.

Birds of a Feather

Winged things were a big trend as well — both patterns with birds and actual feathers. We loved the bold shape of this blue gown by designer Elizabeth Kennedy, especially when embellished with rich red feathers on the skirt and bodice. Miles Redd used equally bold silhouettes in this vignette, setting it all off with a bird patterned wallpaper and even bird prints.

Primary Colors

There’s something about Fall that brings out the schoolgirl in us all — could it be football season or back to school shopping for notebooks and pens? Evidently Calvin Klein drew on a similar nostalgia for his Fall 2017 collection — mixing together primary colors in unexpected ways. Our Autumn Oversize Throw inspired the color palette of this bedroom, with red-orange, navy, and butter yellow.

Winter Florals

We’ve been talking a lot about floral patterns with a dark background, and those prints are still popular on the Fall 2017 runways. Our new Cynthia fabric plays to that same trend with a grey background and abstract floral pattern.

Blush Pink

Mix together sweet and strong elements like Derek Lam did with this Fall 2017 look. Blush pink and ruffles are balanced with volume and a victorian collar. We played to a similar theme in this living room by choosing pieces in masculine shapes, then adding in ladylike pink.

Green & Organic

Deep, earthy greens and leafy prints go hand-in-hand both in fashion and in interior design. We love taking one strong color and using it all over, as does Valentino apparently. This sheer ball gown with a botanical appliqué is equal parts bold and soft. Blending our deep emerald velvet bedding with a botanical printed linen duvet has a similar effect, especially with an earthy green backdrop.
