This post about refreshing your home decor for New Year was updated in December 2022.
Whether you want to refresh your home decor for the New Year by tackling something as big as a home renovation, or you just want a simple home refresh by keeping the house organized, we hope this will be the year you conquer all of the items on your to-do list and we’re here today to help you get started.
To help you start 2023 off on the right foot, we gathered our favorite ways to easily refresh your home for the New Year. Let’s put the holiday decorations away and get started on those home refresh resolutions.
1. Get Organized
Getting organized is the easiest way to refresh your home for the new year. We all have junk that’s been laying around the house, so why not start the year off right by getting rid of it? Step one is to ‘Marie Kondo‘ the place, but step two is keeping it that way year round. One of our favorite ways to keep the clutter away is with entryway cabinets. Your entryway should be practical since you are using it every day to come and go. From kicking off your shoes, storing the kids’ backpacks, to hanging up your keys, our Crawford Shiplap Entry Cabinet and Hampton Grasscloth Entry Cabinet have all the storage solutions you need.
Another key to staying organized is utilizing storage baskets. You see baskets all throughout our photography because they’re the perfect place to hide clutter in a pretty way. Use them in a linen closet for towels and bedding, below a coffee table to hold remotes and magazines, by the couch for pillows and throws, or as toy baskets for your kids. The options are endless!
2. Add Color
One of the easiest ways to refresh your home is by adding a pop of color. If you want to introduce color in a small way, we suggest changing out your throw pillows and blankets. A table lamp in a fun color is another way to incorporate color without making too much of a statement.
For bigger impact, go bold with wall art, rugs, drapery and custom furniture. As you can see above, we included different pops of color and pattern to brighten up this room. Since the headboard and bedding are very neutral, all we needed were some throw pillows, bright drapery and a chair in a fun pattern to jazz it up.
3. Embrace Greenery
The winter months can be a dreary time, but that doesn’t mean your home needs to be! If you’re looking to bring life to your home this year, we suggest decorating with houseplants. You don’t have to have a green thumb to incorporate greenery into every room. Hang them from the ceiling, decorate a bar cart, elevate them towards the eye with standing planters, or simply nestle them in a vase and place upon a shelf or table.
Aside from looking pretty, having plants indoors also offers a variety of health benefits. Studies have shown that plants can help brighten your mood and help aid in fighting illnesses.
4. Welcome Wallpaper
Winter is for hibernating but that doesn’t mean your walls should be participating. Nothing wakes up a boring wall more than wallpaper. While you might think wallpaper is an art of the past, it’s making a comeback with a much better reputation than before. If you’re nervous to give wallpaper a go, start small with a room that may not be seen as often like a bathroom, laundry room, or guest bedroom. All of our wallpaper is effortless to apply and remove, so leave your worries behind in 2022.
5. Mix Up Your Bedding
We can all agree there’s something special about jumping into a cozy bed during the winter, and it feels even better when you have new bedding. If you’re looking for ways to update your bedroom, switching out your bedding can make a huge impact.
To give your bedding a refresh this year, try mixing and matching different bedding collections. We tend to take a solid quilt, like our Audree Pom Pom Quilted Bedding, and mix it with a pattern, like our Jardin Toile Bedding. Throw a few pillows in coordinating colors on top and you’ll feel like you have a brand new room.

Would love to know the wall color used in your latest catalog. It is the dark green.
Thank you.
